The Coole Park biannual series of cultural events continues this winter with a feast of culture for the upcoming Winter Arts and Heritage Programme 2009. The programme aims to integrate arts, culture, and education with a series of events for adults, young people, and families. Environment and heritage lectures, children’s drama and Lady Gregory plays, traditional Irish, Mexican, and classical music, creative writing, children’s outreach workshops, and an art exhibition by The Orchard Gort, all feature in the exciting programme of events taking place between now and December.

The Coole Park winter programme of events kicks off with an arts event this evening from 8pm to 9pm.

Family fun day at Coole

On Thursday November 5 the Arts Series continues at Coole with renowned musician and singer/song writer John Faulkner. Faulkner who is currently musician in residence with Galway County and Galway City councils presents Farewell to Eirinn, a varied selection of songs that refer to emigration. On Sunday November 8 from 2pm to 4pm Coole Park will host Coole Trees in Winter, a family fun day event. Visitors will explore Coole in early winter with staff, learn about native and non-native trees and how to identify them, even when the leaves are gone. Activities for families include outdoor walks, scavenger hunts, indoor fun, and art and craft work. On Monday November 9 from 8pm to 9pm the second of the heritage lectures entitled Being Environmentally Friendly takes place.

Music, heritage, and drama at Coole

There will be an international flavour to the music series at Coole Park over the next few days as part of the Coole Park Winter Programme. Tonight (Thursday) Coole will host a concert of Mexican music by The Gringo Stars from 8pm to 9pm.

Painting, performance, and workshops at Coole Park

The Coole Park Winter Programme of events continues tomorrow from 8pm to 9pm when Athenry Drama Group perform two Lady Gregory one-act plays: The Workhouse Ward and Dave. Athenry Drama group is more than 100 years in existence, having performed on the local and national circuit it has had many successes with several renowned plays.
